1/2 Marathon Training - Week 7

Nothing super exciting to report this week. I had my 8 mile long run yesterday, and had to run it solo again. My sister texted me afterwards, and said "I know it was long and boring, but don't you feel like a rockstar after running that long?" And my response was..."I feel like we still have 5 more miles to go ON TOP of that!!" :)

You guys, I love running. I enjoy getting out on a nice day, strapping on the 'ole running shoes, and heading out to clear my head. A lot of times I like to jam out to music. But sometimes, I prefer to run w/o noise. I like the still and the quiet. The time alone with myself, my thoughts, my prayers, and the beauty of God's creation.

All that said...I think my window of love for running ends up between 3 and 6 miles. After 6 miles, I am done. I'm bored. I'm ready for something different. So I'm not sure I'm going to be one of those repeat 1/2 marathoners. Who knows, I may end up loving the race. As it stands now though, I'm pretty sure this is a one-time goal of mine. :) Bless you avid runners that enjoy doing this over and over again. I am so proud of you all, and am at peace knowing I will likely not be one of you.

Fun with finger paints

Jackson wasn't too sure about his first experience with finger paints. He had a little bit of fun, but was more concerned with cleaning off his hands and fingers immediately after he used each color. :) We'll get him used to getting messy sooner or later. :)

Growing up

Jackson is just now perfecting the art of feeding himself. He's been doing it for quite awhile, but I am now at the point where I don't have to stand by and clean up every spilled bite. :) There are perks of children growing up. But why does it have to happen so fast?!


1/2 Marathon Training - Weeks 5 & 6

Training is still going pretty well. I'm working on being more consistent with my weekly runs. Weekend runs are easy to get in...it's those weekdays that are tricky. All in all, it's going well. This past Sunday, my long run was 7 miles. This is the first weekend I haven't run a long run w/ my sister. I was on my own. The weather was obviously AWESOME for running, and I think I had a brain lapse, and forgot that it was going to be 70 degrees. So...I wore my long sleeve performance shirt, and running tights. About 2 miles into my run, the hot sun was beating down on me, I was overdressed, and quickly became dehydrated. I had water with me, but it wasn't helping much. I ended up finishing out my 7 miles...but I felt sooo sick afterwards. Thank the good Lord for gatorade and water! In about 2 hours I was back to semi-normal, and on my way to my twin nephews' birthday party. :)

Lessons learned: 1. do not overdress when running. 2. be careful not to get dehydrated 3. if at all possible, run your long runs w/ someone...it is SO much easier this way!!!!
